Stage 1 — plate-driven, irregular hip/valley core. Define wall rectangles (wings); ridges rise straight up each centerline. Each wing carries its own pitch, so hips/valleys are irregular (plan bearing ≠ 45°, two cheek & backing bevels per member). HAP is held constant across wings. Plumb cuts bear on the face of the given ridge width. The Top plan solves Wing 1 ∩ Wing 2; Side / Front / 3-D land in Stage 3.
G Global roof setup
Ridge width is set per wing (in each wing card) — main ridge can be a wide steel beam while side wings frame in lumber. Every plumb cut and member length deducts to the face of that wing's own ridge: common run loses ½ width, hip/valley loses ½ width ÷ sin(plan angle).
Wing width / length / tape pull read in the selected unit — type a bare number (e.g. 28). Adding ' or " always overrides (e.g. 14'6", 9 1/2"). Ridge width, O.C. and overhang stay in inches.
Seat cut is set per wing (in each wing card). Tangent / plumb: rafter rides the outside-top plate corner — one full-depth plumb heel, line to the tangent. Birdsmouth: level seat + plumb heel notch; HAP = plumb depth − heel. Open the Side view to see HAP and seat dimensioned for that wing.
W Wings (wall rectangles)
Width = span (across ridge). Sizes use actual surfaced dimensions: 2×4=1.5×3.5, 2×6=1.5×5.5, 2×8=1.5×7.25, 2×10=1.5×9.25, 2×12=1.5×11.25.
